A long-standing investor with the firm and its principals, Downie Saussy joined Flagship’s predecessor firm, Flagship Capital Partners, in September 2008. In his current role, he is responsible for developing investor relationships for the firm. Most recently, Downie was instrumental in helping launch the firm’s private real estate investment trust (REIT), Flagship Healthcare Trust.
Prior to joining the Firm, Downie had a successful career in the homebuilding industry that began in 1978 as custom builder. In 1991 he helped form Saussy Burbank, one of the region’s most recognized merchant builders. Soon after its inception, the Charlotte-based homebuilder expanded with offices in Raleigh, NC and Charleston, SC. In 1999 Saussy Burbank was sold to Arvida/St. Joe and since then Downie has assisted in structuring commercial real estate investments throughout the Carolinas.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, Downie relocated to Charlotte in 1960 at the age of 14. He and his wife, Sally, have 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren, all residing in Charlotte. In his free time, Downie enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, exercising, sailing, fly fishing and golf.
I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Pennsylvania to Harpers Ferry, Virginia with a young friend who was finishing the entire 2,200 mile journey.
