FLAGSHIP HEALTHCARE PROPERTIES’ STATEMENT ON RECENT SOCIAL UNREST AND RACIAL INEQUALITY

It is difficult to put into words the way that we, as a company, feel about the tragedies that have happened recently in our country. The tragic killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others illuminate a history of pervasive social injustice that needs to be acknowledged, discussed and addressed. In times like these, it is important to stand up, do what is right and join in solidarity to listen to and support those who are suffering with care and compassion. Black Lives Matter. A lack of action is not an option and we condemn any form of racism, discrimination or inequality toward Black Americans and all minority groups. As Bishop Desmond Tutu stated, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”

Flagship Healthcare Properties strives to adhere to our Core Values and we will continue to promote a familial culture within our company where all who exemplify integrity, sound character and  judgment are welcomed and appreciated, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or gender. While we are proud of the culture we have created, we recognize that more can and should be done to grow and improve as a company and as individuals. We commit to being more diligent and proactive to support and pursue inclusiveness within our organization and communities.

We feel moved to make this statement because we recognize that searching for answers and improvements often begins with honest, straightforward dialogue. We desire to be a part of that important conversation. Wharton Professor Stephanie Creary stated, “If you do nothing after saying something, your words will not matter.” Flagship will begin by listening for deeper understanding and then continue with permanent, positive actions. This statement outlines our beliefs and our commitment to work toward positive change, with the added benefit of publicly holding ourselves accountable to follow through with conversation and action. Our next step is working to identify near-term (over the next 1-3 months) actions that we will take to embrace inclusiveness and promote social justice. Additionally, we are examining what steps and changes the company will take to implement longer-term, foundational improvements to make Flagship a better employer, a better company, and a better part of society. Leading by example, Flagship strives to be a part of the change that we want to see in the world.
